We have received a response saying that although our verifier is registered on the GMC, because he is a retired doctor and no longer practising we cannot use him. The guidelines don't state that he needs to be a "practising" doctor and so I am confused as to why he can't be accepted. Please could you clarify.

Paul - if a doctor is retired he is no longer an authorised member of the profession you refer to. See PG 67 section 9.1 for guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/evidence-of-identity-conveyancers

Thanks for clarifying. So I have a follow up question. We have decided to use the ID1/ID5 route to verify identity. My wife used her passport for the check. This doesn't and never has included her middle name and so the name appearing on the ID1 will just be her first name and surname. However the forms we have already submitted also include her middle name. Will this cause an issue and if so should we a) Request the middle name to be removed from the forms we have already sent so that the title deeds will match the name on her passport b) Use her driving licence for the ID check as this does contain her middle name Thanks for any advice you can give. Having already had the ID3 rejected we don't want to leave any room for error

Paul - if submitted as stated that will be up to the casework team to consider. It may not be an issue if everything else is in order but if there are other matters that need resolving they may ask for clarification or new forms. I would suggest that you use the Contact form to submit the specific details to explain the name anomaly and once processing starts the casework team will contact you as appropriate if necessary. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-hm-land-registry#contact-form
