My elderly mother has had to move into a care home as a result of various medical conditions (cancer/heart problems/pulmonary problems/inability to mobilise at all/increasing motor coordination problems…) I hold a lasting power of attorney for finance and property for her. The local council have agreed to a deferred payment plan to pay her care home fees of £1500+ a week. As her attorney I have signed the charge documents and had my identity verified. However the councils legal representative now require an ID1 form for my mother. She is unable to move from bed and gets upset by new people and situations. My son (her grandson) is a qualified conveyancer and solicitor, and has verified her ID with all required documentation being provided to him, and a video call undertaken and an ID1 form and a further ID5 firm completed. Would this be acceptable to the Land Registry? Asking as he is related? He believes that the guidelines do not specify that the solicitor/conveyancer should not be related. There is no financial interest for either him or myself in the transaction as the charge is for mum to pay her care fees to the council!!!! Thank you

S Wotton - provided your son is not involved in the actual transaction and are therefore acting independently and not representing the parties involved, then they may be able to verify her identity, provided all other requirements are met and proper checks are conducted on his status as a qualified conveyancer. He is verifying her identity as a conveyancer and not as her grandson
