Title Number SYK17515 Hi, my wife added me to the deeds on the 16th May last year. The solicitors handling this received the deeds back recently and they are showing as tenants in common rather than joint tenants which was what we requested. So, on the 1st April 2026 they sent back a correction to this. My query is what is the current status of the deeds? This query is further complicated by the fact that my wife died in September last year. Regards Paul

Hi Paul - when you were added to the deeds in May 2025 a form A restriction was also added. This is the restriction most commonly associated with the term 'tenants in common'. This was explained to the conveyancer when the register was updated re the loss of your wife They have now lodged an application to sever the joint tenancy using form SEV, which is not what I would have expected. Form SEV is used to apply to register a form A restriction, not remove it. I would recommend speaking to your conveyancer to review their application and refer them to Practice Guide 6 and how to apply to remove a form A restriction https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/devolution-on-the-death-of-a-registered-proprietor/practice-guide-6-devolution-on-the-death-of-a-registered-proprietor
