Hi all, any advice/information gratefully accepted
We had a loan for our deposit for our 1st home under the keyworker homes in Hampshire scheme via Swaythling/Arbi housing association.
We have repaid our mortgage with the bank and I have taken early retirement and have the personal funds to repay our loan with the housing association from my lump pension sum.
I have done everything asked by the housing association and wish to pay them quite a lot of money, but I am being told I now need to hire a solicitor to complete a DS1 form and for that task the solicitor wants £300:00 + VAT and the solicitor will only do this on completion of a sale of my house - I do not wish to sell.
I note form looking online that a DS2 might also be required - Are these forms that I can complete legally myself or do I have to go via a solicitor?
As I mentioned, I do not wish to sell, just repay our loan to the housing association - Help, how hard can it be to give money back :(

Hi Corinne - form DS2 is the application form. Form DS1 is the form executed by the lender to discharge their legal charge
You don't have to use a conveyancer although we always recommend that you do
I assume the Housing Assoc are the ones asking you to use a solicitor even though they are the ones who need to execute the DS1. As such that's something to raise with them and ask them to submit the forms DS2/DS1 themselves for example. You could complete the forms and then send them to them to execute/sign/date and send to us
I suspect they are asking you to use a solicitor to facilitate the payment of the loan due to financial/legal requirements re the transfer of monies but worth checking with them
