Hello
We are 3 siblings who are executors for my mother's will. She passed away 4 years ago and I know that security has tightened up since then to stop identity fraud. We started the process some time ago but because of an error correspondence has gone back and forth with Land Registry and taken some time.
Now we need to fill out ID5. Are the online services reliable? eg ID5 verification identification? Or is it more reliable to use a solicitor? We have filled out the form, that's not a problem it's just the identification that's holding us up. I saw online that whoever checks needs to see the connection to the property - would that be the will and the deed of variation in our case? I assume also passport.
One sibling is disabled (the property will go in her name) and also one sibling lives in Holland. The solicitor I spoke with cannot confirm his ID via zoom. Can he do it online or should we wait till he comes to England?
Lastly, will Land Registry hold the ID registration if we run out of time and need to re-apply?
Thanks for your advice, much appreciated :)

Hello Susannah - sorry to read of the numerous issues you are facing here. How to have your identities verified is set out in some detail in our PG 67 both re ID1/ID5 and overseas or by video call. Please refer to the guide for answers to those Qs - Evidence of identity (PG67) - GOV.UK
I am not aware of any issues re the online services offered by firms willing to complete the ID verification but very much your choice. Applications can be held by us provided an explanation as to the reasons for the delay are provided and a timeline given as to when the issues will be resolved. If there is a pending application I would rely on engaging with the casework team/conveyancer as appropriate for assistance
