I want to do an assent without using a conveyancer. It should be quite simple, no mortgage, money or searches involved, but I just want to make sure I'm sending you all the correct forms. I can send you an official 'Grant of probate' certificate, with the holographic stamp, but as these are destroyed afterwards, would a photocopy suffice? Are the other forms I need to send, an AP1, AS1 and ID1? And that's all? Instead of the ID1, which will cost about £80 to get verified, could I register for a 'Qualified Electronic Signature'? How do they work? Thanks for your attention.

Alan - forms AP1, AS1 and ID1 are correct. Don't send original documents. QES would not be relevant here and would not 'trump' any ID requirements anyway

Thanks Adam, I'll send a photocopy of the probate certificate and sign and date it with "I certify... etc.". I see the fee for all this will be £100. And it can be paid by cheque or direct debit, under agreement with Land Registry. However, I don't have a cheque book and I assume the direct debit is for professional conveyancers. Would a postal order be acceptable? Which box do I tick in section 4 of AP1?

Alan - postal order is the alternative. Amend cheque to read postal order on the AP1
