I am a freelance solicitor  and registered with the SRA but i do not undertake any reserved legal activities - conveyancing -  i am therefore unable to verify ID; i cannot use an ID1 or an ID3  as i am  not listed  on there as a profession ! any suggestions

Clare - you would need to find someone who can verify a person's identity using form ID1/conveyancer as defined or ID3/others as listed. There is no other alternative

Thats a shame , maybe the Land registry  could  eventually  add a freelance solicitor  to the ID3 forms

Clare - the ID requirements have and continue to be adjusted. Property and ID fraud has always been and probably always will be a moving feast.
From a solicitor/conveyancing perspective I assume being 'freelance' takes you outside of the definition of a conveyancer (section 3 of PG 67
