we live in a shared ownership property which we own 50 percent. for over 2 years now we have been asking the housing who owns the land as we need to extend the lease they say they do not know. so we would now like to make a claim on the land. we have lived in our property for 12 years.

Samantha - I would suggest you seek some legal advice on your wish to claim ownership of the land.

Claiming ownership of land without documentary title or deeds would fall under principles of Adverse Possession. Our Practice Guide 4 and Practice Guide 5 set out our requirements and process depending on whether the land concerned is registered with us or not. However, we cannot tell you if you have a claim and what to do. That is where independent legal advice comes.
