Adverse possession following death of owner

I have inherited a house from my father and wish to apply for first registration. However, I also have to apply for adverse possession as, owing to a conveyancing oversight, part of the garden was not transferred. The original owner of that part is not known.
Should I apply in my own name or on behalf of my late father’s estate?
(second question I’ve submitted - apologies for not dealing with this in one post)
Thank you.

James - the estate can't now claim the land so any claim would be in your name. As such you really do need legal advice as to what you can, or cannot do re any claim
