We live in our self build house.  The land that is it on was registered when we bought it and shows as the land next to number 11.  Our house shows as 11a, which is correct, but there is no information on it, as it has only been found through the Post Office listing.  We understand that it is advantageous to register the house, in case we needed to sell it, but are we able to register the house, as the land is already registered?  Can both be registered?

Wendy - a registered proprietor or their conveyancer can write to us or complete form AP1 to change the property description. For example, to change the property's name.

You need to send us evidence from the street naming and numbering department of the Local Authority. Royal Mail documents are not acceptable as their delivery point address description can differ from the Local Authority registered address.

When submitting your application, please remember to tell us the address you would like a copy of the updated register to be posted to upon completion, as this can often be different from the property itself.

There is no fee for this application

Where to send your application

HM Land Registry address for applications.

Thanks Adam.  Does this mean that all we need to do is change the description to 11A, with the proof from the Local Authority, we don't need to show where the house is on the plot of land?  If so does that come under the change of address option on the form AP1 and we don't need to have our identity checked?

Wendy - correct. We don't map/update the title plan re buildings as we register the general boundaries and what's within them
