Good afternoon

We have a case going through where our client only has one given name, which is verified by all of their ID. There is no surname, only this one given name.

We use the Infotrack Business Gateway to submit our applications to Land Registry, which has mandatory Forename and Surname fields. If, in the Surname section, we were to put something like '(none)' in there, would this be the best way for the title to only show in the one given name, or is there an alternative way of doing this/will the name have to appear twice as it has been forced to do on various other forms such as stamp duty documentation and the mortgage offer?

Thank you

Good afternoon Mark - for people with a single name, indicate 'none' in the first name and enter the given name under surname field.  If you are able, then include a cover note explaining the situation.

Good morning

Thank you for advising on the above. With regards to the Bankruptcy search, we can't provide a cover letter for this, but would the same action need to be taken?

Thank you

Generally speaking, yes, as the system will search the surname alone so that should cover things. But, please also have regard to entering all given variations of the name separately on the search and also any former names where there has been a change of name by deed poll or on marriage. Section 3.1. of our Pratice Guide refers: Practice guide 63: the land charges registers and agricultural credits register: registration, official search, office copy and cancellation - GOV.UK .

I hope this is helpful.
