My parents have a paper copy of the deeds, but a solicitor holds the originals, and the solicitor has moved
When I performed an online search, I received the reply "No information held for ..."
As a result, I was led to believe that I should register the property for the first time
When I then started reading the checklist for an application, I just got lost in the jargon; even the practice guide did not really help TBH

I guess my question is, is there a Joe Public "simple" guide as to how to register a property for the first time "using" a paper copy of the deeds?

Kevin - our online guidance offers a step by step guide but the forms and more you have probably already linked to are always needed.
Jargon will always exist but the forms and guidance do try to explain what's needed.
My advice would be to complete the forms FR1 and DL and then consider what documents you need to then provide by working through the PG 1 guidance.
I'd also recommend trying to locate the original deeds/documents as if you don;t now have them you may need to refer to PG 2 instead which means more jargon and more complexities
