Good morning,

Our mortgage is now paid off and we have been advised by our (ex) mortgage lender, Halifax, to contact Land Registry and request a copy of our deeds. They have given us a reference number beginning with "ST" to be quoted.

Please could you advise on how we go about doing this?

Many thanks.

Good Morning - If you have an address or title number (our unique identifying reference) for the property, you may use our online property search to obtain a copy of the title register and title plan. Enter the postal address or title number of the property and once you have registered for the service you can view and download an electronic copy of its title register and title plan. The title register or title plan you download won't be an 'official copy', so it won't usually be accepted as evidence in a court. Please remember to save the documents as the downloads are only available for 90 days.

Alternatively, you can request an official copy of the register and title plan by completing form OC1 and posting it to us. Enter the details of the land/property and the title number (our unique identifying reference) if you have it, then enter your own details into the applicant fields. If the land/property is registered, we will post you an official copy of the title register and/or title plan. Official copies are admissible in court as evidence.

Fees are payable please see the Fee Guide. Cheques/postal orders should be made payable to HM Land Registry.

Please send the completed application to Land Registry Citizen Centre.

HM Land Registry address for applications.

For information on how to read your documents please see How to read a title register and title plan.

Hi Adam, sorry for resurrecting this thread; just a quick question please if that's ok.

The official copy of the register and title plan, via form OC1, how does that differ from the electronic copies I've downloaded? Is the content any different or is it simply a matter of what's accepted in a court?

I've been asked to get an official copy just for our own records....but my view is that the downloaded versions are suitable as we're only keeping it for our own reference.

Thanks again,
Rob.

Hi R Bish - the information is the same but an OC is an official copy that can be admissible in court for example. The download would not be
You don't need to hold a copy or keep it safe as when you need to confirm the information say for a sale or remortgage then you'd need a current copy
