When my father died 11 years ago my brother and I inherited some mineral rights in Wales. I realise I have never updated the register to reflect this but cannot find out where.  Please can someone help!  Thanks.

Tom - how are the rights you refer to registered?

Good question!  I am woefully ignorant about them, I just have a box of papers in the attic which obviously I need to look through.  What should I be looking for?  Sorry to be a complete idiot!

Tom - it can be a complex issue but the Q is key here so I'm glad it was a good one.
Although rights can be registered they rarely change on death of a beneficiary for example. However you maybe referring to a specific registered title and if so that's the detail you should be looking for IF we need to be involved
Registration of mines and minerals (PG65) - GOV.UK
So you are probably looking for two things. 1. How did he acquire the mineral rights and what that paperwork tells you and 2. Were they registerable and therefore registered and the answer in that may rely on where they actually are geographically

Okay, thank you, that's very helpful.  I'll dig out the papers and see what we've got.  I guess the things that drove my initial question are 1) I need to update contact details in case anyone wants to get in touch about the rights and 2) I want to be ready in case someone wants to buy them.

Tom - reasonable thinking and hopefully the answers will lie within the box of papers in your attic. Good Luck
