Possessory Title

A small section of our property is registered as being a possessory title rather than an absolute title. It was first registered in this way in August 2015. I seem to remember when we purchased the property that our solicitor told us that after a certain time has elapsed, the title could be changed to an absolute title. Is this correct? If so, what period of time must elapse and how does one set about changing the status of the parcel of land?
