Hello,
When we purchased our house my girlfriends dad loaned us some money which was secured against the property.  Now this has been paid back we want to get the charged removed but are not sure how we do this.

Is this something he can do himself or will he need a solicitor?

Many thanks

Hello Andrew - using a conveyancer is not compulsory

In order to remove a charge from the register, we need to see evidence that it has been paid off:

Our requirements are explained in these guides:

This type of application does not attract a fee.

Send your application to the appropriate address for applications.

Hi Anthony - many thanks. You can check the register to confirm the details, which are in fact a charging order that has been protected on the register by the creditor in the form of a form K restriction - Practice guide 76: charging orders - GOV.UK
You can search online to confirm the register information but please check for an email from me first
You need to discuss the issue/charge with your legal rep/conveyancer to understand what happens re the debt/order following the death of your late wife and/or how to then apply to cancel the restriction/sell as appropriate
