Afternoon, i'm looking for some advice please. My local authority building control department have been applying unilateral notices to the land register for unauthorised works that required a building control application. Applying a unilateral notice for unauthorised works is not something which the building act 1984 or building regulations 2010 specifies as an enforcement power. Can someone please advise what gives the council the power to apply such notices?
Thank you.

Morning Teresa - it's legal advice you need here as to what legal rights the council has and whether they are then a protectable interest from a registration perspective - Notices, restrictions and protection of third-party interests (PG19) - GOV.UK
