Hello
I received a charging order for an HMRC VAT debt many years ago, but are in the process of selling the house so trying to make contact to get a settlement figure/how to pass details to my solicitor.
I wrote to the solicitor on the land registry details and have received no reply and have called a few different numbers for HMRC found online but have not found anyone who was able to help.
Has anyone got contact details as it's holding our sale up sadly?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Adam

I’ve written and phoned but unable to get through to anyone that knew where I should be directed sadly.

I’ve got all the other information, just can’t manage to get this.

M W - many thanks. The contact number at the time was 0300 0589 066 but that's 10 years old so may also draw a blank now
One thing to flag though is that the restriction(s) are form K restrictions protecting charging orders issued against one of joint owners. Our PG 76 section 4 explains how these might be overreached and cancelled automatically when selling/buying - Practice guide 76: charging orders - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
I mention this solely as I deal with a fair number of enquiries re charging orders/form K restrictions and how they might be dealt with. But it's still something for your conveyancer/you to deal with as you wish to of course and the PG 76 guidance simply flags an alternative that might be considered

Unfortunately I didn't understand the document I'm afraid

M W - noted but perhaps one to discuss with your conveyancer drawing their attention to section 4 and whether that alters their process as you are selling the property. The section explains how a form K can be overreached in such cases - I wouldn't necessarily expect you to understand the complexities involved but it maybe something to follow if unable to resolve the charging order
