I want to add my spouse to the deeds, so that we are joint tenants. My potential SRA registered solicitor advises that the regulations have recently changed by Land Registry and they would need my spouse to first have her own separate SRA registered solicitor to confirm her ID before we make an appointment with my solicitor to change the deeds (no exchange of money adding to deeds).
So my questions are:
1) Does the land registry insist that ID verification is done by a SRA registered Solicitor and
2) how do you search on to find a SRA registered Solicitor who will verify an ID?

David - our identity verification requirements are explained in PG 67 - Practice guide 67: evidence of identity - GOV.UK

I'm unsure as to what your solicitor is referring to with regards your wife having her own/separate solicitor verify her identity but hopefully they can explain that for you.

If you are using a solicitor to act for you re the Transfer from you sole name to joint names then they should be able to verify both your identities to enable them to then submit the application and confirm as such.

Thanks Adam. Is it still possible for ID1 verification to be done remotely by solicitors using zoom? also does ID5, which these companies use, still exist? Unfortunately there seems to be a reluctance by Solicitors to verify the identity of applicants in a personal appointment, who are not using any solicitor in the remainder of the process.
