The original copy of my lease was destroyed in a fire and I can't find the copy I had when I bought my house as it was in 2001. I need a copy so I can remortgage, can you suggest other ways that I may be able to obtain it please? I can't remember who the solicitors were either. Would my current mortgage company have a copy?

Kate - the mortgage lender might have a copy but only they would know
Do we have a copy? Have you checked the register?

I have been advised by my solicitor that the Land Registry are unable to supply a copy of the lease to them so I need to send them a copy and have suggested contacting the previous solicitors.

Kate - understood. Responsibility for holding a copy rests with the tenant and superior title holder/landlord. Presumably the landlord hasn't got a copy either

I don't think so, what does this mean for remortgaging if I can't get a copy?

Kate - that's a Q for your lender/the solicitor as to whether it's a must have or just a good to have for a remortgage
