Proof of sale of a property

Hi, my wife and I have just separated, my wife is trying to get help from the local council, when she filled in the forms and sent them of, they have come back and asked for proof of sale, from a property we sold back in 2015, I know what we got for the property, and the date it was sold....but where do I actually get proof of the sale from??

Hi Chris - might be worth asking the council to confirm what evidence they will accept.
From a registered info angle you could apply for a copy of the Transfer by which it was sold OR a copy of the current register to show you don't now own it
Get information about property and land: Get a copy of the deeds - GOV.UK 
OR
Search for land and property information - GOV.UK

Thanks for your reply Adam, will either those at least show we did own the property, but no longer do?

Chris - the current register will only confirm who now owns it
The Transfer will confirm your name(s) and the name(s) of your buyers also which confirms you did own it and they purchased it/you transferred it on the date of that deed
If you want a copy of the register showing you as owners then that's form HC1 - see the part entitles 'historical registers' on the first link Get information about property and land: Search the register - GOV.UK 
But as I posted all about what proof the council want/will accept so worth asking them to confirm if you can - they won't want all three or more I suspect 

I don't suppose you would know what the fee would be for 1 copy of the Historical copy of register /title plan.
