Hi,

I am a qualified solicitor (non-property law). My father needs to fill out a form ID1 for a change of name application with HMLR. I was not able to find any guidance re whether family members can sign off on the ID1 forms or applicant needs to find someone unrelated. Would be grateful if someone can help me answer this question.

Hi Abed - there is nothing specific to prevent a family member from verifying a person's identity if they fulfil the specific requirements re being a solicitor. You are verifying his identity as a solicitor and not as a relative.
We always reserve the right to ask for more evidence of course so a final decision would not be made until the application as a whole was considered and processed
