Following a marriage separation, last week I completed a HR1 form to register my rights to the the marital property which is in my husband's name only. Today I have received an email which states that the estimated completion date for this request is 23 January 2026 (not 2025!).

Is this an error or do I really need to wait a year and four months for my request to be processed?

Ref: P292GPT

Sonja - it's not an error but it is simply an estimate re the timescale. The nature of the application means that it requires specific consideration when processing and the estimated timescale is then based on the average for all such 'complex' applications
It is very unlikely to actually wait as long as 2026 and I would expect it to be completed in a few months if everything is in order.
I should also stress that the rights you are seeking to register are protected from the date of receipt. So the application, even when simply waiting to be processed, is already doing the same job for example as if the actual entry appeared on the register
Once processing starts the casework team will contact you as appropriate and hopefully to simply confirm that the register has bene updated as applied for
